Scriptures for Mental Health

We all experience fear, worry, and anxiety at times. The good news is that the Bible speaks volumes on these topics. If you’re struggling with your mental health, here are some reminders in Scripture that can help:

Inspect your thoughts.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” - Psalm 139:23-24 NLT

Take every thought that’s contrary to God’s Word captive.

“We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” - 2 Corinthians 10:5 NLT

Renew your mind.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." - Romans 12:2 NLT

Trust in God by shifting your focus to His truth and promises.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding." - Proverbs 3:5 NLT

"You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!" - Isaiah 26:3 NLT

Remember that peace comes from God.

"For Christ Himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in His own body on the cross, He broke down the wall of hostility that separated us." - Ephesians 2:14 NLT

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid." - John 14:27 NLT

Talk to God about your concerns, and thank Him for who He is and what He's done.

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

Trust that God can handle your problems.

"God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble." - Psalm 46:1 NLT

"Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand." - Isaiah 41:10 NLT

Refuse to let fear, worry, and anxiety steal your joy.

"The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life." - John 10:10 NLT

Remember that God works all things for good for those who love Him.

"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them." - Romans 8:28 NLT

You don't have to do things in your own power.

"Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think." - Ephesians 3:20 NLT

God is your Provider.

"And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:19 NLT

"When You open Your hand, You satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing." - Psalm 145:16 NLT

God is your Protector.

"The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety." - Psalm 18:2 NLT
