Creating a Sabbath Routine

While taking a day (24 hours) is ideal for Sabbath rest, we understand that sometimes it's difficult. Your "day off" may include errands, carting kids to and from practice, or last-minute emergencies that take up your time. This is why we want to help you achieve that Sabbath rest every day. Here are three easy steps that anyone can take to create a Sabbath routine in their day-to-day lives.

Decide the time of day when you will rest.

Start by picking a time of day--morning, afternoon, or evening--when you know you'll enjoy some downtime. Consider looking at your work schedule and calendar when choosing a time to rest to avoid conflicting appointments.

Decide the length of time you will rest.

Whether it's 30 minutes, an hour, or longer, establish a time frame you will utilize for your rest. Consider adding it to your calendar so there are clear boundaries for when your rest time begins and ends.

Decide what you will do to rest.

It's important to note that "rest" does not always equate to sleep. Although sleep is essential, and we highly encourage you to prioritize your sleep, sometimes rest can look like doing other things that relax or refresh you. Whether it's taking a nap, journaling, going on a peaceful walk outside, or sitting and being in silence, predetermine what you will do during your rest time. This will allow you to look forward to and get the most out of your scheduled Sabbath time.

Give these three steps a try when introducing a Sabbath routine to your daily life, and let us know how it goes!
