Using Faith to Manage Anxiety
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do you have a lot of thoughts going on in your mind at once? Are you able to manage and navigate these feelings and thoughts?
Whether they keep you up at night or coursing through your mind throughout the day, anxious thoughts can be overwhelming and exhausting—and often, we don't know what to do with them.
If you're looking for a faith-based way to manage your anxiety, try using what we call "anchor scriptures."
Go to the Bible and find 1-3 verses.
Choose verses that hone in on what you're struggling with or feeling overwhelmed about. Pro tip: If you don't know where to look for specific verses, google "Bible verses about _________" and fill in the blank with what you're looking for.
Write down these verses.
Not only does writing out these scriptures help commit them to memory, but it also gives you the ability to access these verses at a later time quickly. Consider writing them on a sticky note, in a journal, or a note on your phone for easy access.
When anxiety gets overwhelming, seek out these verses.
When you start feeling overwhelmed, go back to these verses. Read these verses and meditate on them, allowing yourself a few minutes to think about the meaning of these verses and how they apply to you.
When you follow these practices, you will see that reading Scripture calms you. Your thoughts slow down, and your focus shifts. Give it a try, and let us know how it goes!
