Rest and Renewal
We live in a world that glorifies busyness. But have you ever noticed how exhaustion clouds your thinking? Lack of rest affects focus, mood, and even decision-making. Scientifically, rest allows the brain to reset. Deep sleep helps process emotions, clears out toxins, and regulates stress. Without it, anxiety and burnout creep in. But rest isn't just about sleep. Here are three ways you can get some rest in addition to a good night's sleep:
Take breaks.
During the work day, take breaks as often as possible. Get some fresh air, walk around a bit, and make the most of your scheduled "break" time by doing something that rejuvenates you.
Practice mindfulness.
Pause, close your eyes, and take some deep breaths. Enjoy the silence and practice mindfulness, even if it's just for a few moments.
Step away from stress.
If you're in a particularly stressful situation, sometimes the best thing to do is to step out for a few minutes to reset and regroup before revisiting the issue. If life is stressful (or even if it's not!), it's essential to take one day a week when you stop working and spend time resting through the Sabbath.
Taking breaks, practicing mindfulness, and stepping away from stress allows your brain to recharge. When you prioritize rest, you're not being lazy but protecting your mental health. A rested mind is clearer, calmer, and more resilient.
So today, give yourself permission to pause. Your mind will thank you!
