Overcoming Anxiety through Affirmations

What does it mean to use affirmations to overcome anxiety?

Using affirmations is speaking life over yourself. Affirming yourself is a beneficial practice, especially when you are anxious or might be doubting or questioning certain situations. Affirmations bring positivity and renew us from the inside out, especially when rooted in Scripture.

Here are some positive affirmations to speak over yourself when you are struggling with anxiety:

I can do all things.

“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” - Philippians 4:13 NLT

I am unique.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” - Ephesians 2:10 NLT

I am strong.

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.” - Ephesians 6:10 NLT

I am brave.

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” - Joshua 1:9 NLT

I am at peace.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

Even if you struggle to believe these things, speaking them aloud encourages you because your words have power. The more you say it, the more it will seep into your heart, and the more you will begin to believe it.

It’s also important to surround yourself with people who will continue to speak life and encourage you. If you’re invested in being kind to yourself, you should surround yourself with people who are kind to you, too.

Go into today speaking life and encouraging yourself, using that to help uplift your mood and overcome your anxiety!
