Acts of Kindness in Crisis
While you may be inclined to perform monumental gestures for your friends or family going through a hard time, showing support and kindness can be simpler than you think. One way to show others you care is by simply reaching out.
Reaching out can go so far. When you do reach out, consider including these three things in your communication:
Let them know they're on your mind.
Reaching out to someone else to let them know they're on your mind can do wonders. Maybe you know they're experiencing something difficult. Maybe the Holy Spirit dropped their name on your heart, and you took it upon yourself to reach out to and check in on them. Either way, knowing you're thinking about them will impact them significantly.
Let them know that you care.
Reaching out to someone does not mean trying to get unnecessary details or gossip. This communication aims to let them know that you care about them. Consider saying something like, "I care about you," "I love you," or "You matter to me." If they want to share details, great, but don't push or pressure them to share things they're not ready to share.
Let them know you're here for them if they need anything.
Every good message ends with a "call to action." At the end of your communication, let the person know that you are available if they need you. They may not take you up on the offer, but creating the space for them to reach out and ask for help if needed provides them the comfort and support they may need. However, only mention this if you're willing to help. If you're going to offer your time, you must be available to give it to them if needed.
If someone is on your heart today, take the time to reach out to them and try including these three points in your communication.
